Trip to Kerala in Monsoon: Athirapally is the land of rivers and forests and water falls. The Athirapally falls is situated 1000 feet above sea level on the Chalakudy river in Thrissur district of kerala. It is the largest waterfall and major tourist attraction point. The water falls comes down from a height of a 80 feet through several parallel streams. This patch in Sholayar ranges so beautifully intertwined with lush green forest cover and sizzling silver cascades and located central to Cochin and River Nila, which can be better experienced during the monsoon. In its full might, the water falls appear like Niagara falls.

Down from the water falls, the steam continues as Chalakkudi River which ultimately drains in to Arabian Sea. This river is a bio diversity hotspot. Out of 85 species of fresh water fish living in it, 35 are endemic to western ghats and 9 are endangered. Since 80’s this has been a hit location for movies. Tamil populace even call it “Punna Kai Mannan falls”.

Chalakudy, 32 Km is the nearest railway junction to Athirapally. One can reach to this place through air to the Cochin Airport which is only 40 Km away. Kochi and Thrissur are two major railways junctions nearby. So be adventurous and make trip to this place.
